Combat Controller Qualification Course
Information
The Combat Controller (CCT) is a role dedicated to the communication between air and ground assets. Working alongside the assault teams, they coordinate strikes, evacs and reconaissance missions provided by Echo Squadron, The Unit's aviation assets.
Responsibilities
Combat Controllers are deployed within the Assault Squadron. As such, during mission they may be expected to do the following;
- Guide in Close Air Support missions
- Prepare and secure landing zones for Echo Squadron
- Manage the airspace within the team's Area of Operation
- Utilize smoke, flare and other signalling equipment to assist with visibility
- Work closely with ground leadership to coordinate air assets
As a member of the Assault Team, they are not exempt from being first person through the door. Though this is undesirable, the skill of being a CCT is to know when to prioritize the Air mission and the Ground mission, often within seconds.
Requirements
- Good attendance record
- Good standing within the unit
- Rank of Sergeant or above
Pipeline
- Initial application for training and qualification
- Training session
- Follow up sessions if needed or requested
- Three succesfull Operations as primary CCT in the field
- Graduation
Next Steps in The Unit
A combat controller, while a specialist role on the battlefield is also the entry qualification to become a member of Echo Squadron, our aviation assets. Once the operator has proven themselves and worked with Echo Squadron multiple times and shown competency, they may request a transfer into the Echo Squadron Crew Chief qualification.
